The steps below are Apple's, for an iPhone.
What to do right now
- 1 of 4Unplug the cable and any accessory
Don't plug the cable in again until the iPhone and the cable are completely dry.
- 2 of 4Tap out the water
Gently tap the iPhone against your hand with the port facing down.
- 3 of 4Leave it to dry with some airflow
Apple says it can take up to 24 hours to dry fully.
- 4 of 4Wait at least 30 minutes, then try charging
If the iPhone says charging is not available because liquid is detected, it is still wet. Wait and try again later.
What not to do
- Don't put it in a bag of rice. Apple says small bits of rice can damage the iPhone.
- Don't dry it with a hair dryer or other heat, or with compressed air.
- Don't push a cotton swab or a paper towel into the port.
- Don't charge it while it is wet. Apple says you shouldn't, except in an emergency.
Still acting up after it dried?
No sound, no charging, a foggy camera or a dim screen after it dried are signs to bring it in for a water damage check.
