Quick answer

Open Settings, tap Battery, then Battery Health. Maximum Capacity shows how much charge the battery holds compared with when it was new. Apple designs iPhone 14 and earlier batteries to keep 80 percent at 500 full charge cycles, and iPhone 15 models at 1000.

Check it

  2. 2 of 2Tap Battery Health

On iPhone 14 and earlier it may be called Battery Health & Charging.

What the number means

Maximum Capacity is the battery's charge compared with when it was new. It drops as the battery ages.

  • Apple designs iPhone 14 and earlier batteries to keep 80 percent of their capacity at 500 full charge cycles, under ideal conditions.
  • iPhone 15 models: 80 percent at 1000 full charge cycles.

If the iPhone says the battery's health is significantly degraded, Apple says that is not a safety issue, but the battery needs service to get full performance and capacity back.

When to replace it

  • The phone dies before the end of the day.
  • It shuts off with charge still showing.
  • Battery Health shows the significantly degraded message.
  • The screen lifts or the back bulges: stop using it and read Swollen phone battery: what to do.

Questions

Where is battery health on an iPhone?

Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health.

Is 80 percent battery health bad?

It is the level Apple designs the battery to keep after 500 full charge cycles on iPhone 14 and earlier, or 1000 on iPhone 15 models. Below it, battery life gets shorter.
